DREAM THE FOREST WILD:
How Children Saved a Rainforest
|
The story
tells about the forest and how it was
created by donations from children worldwide, who raised nearly 3
million dollars and saved 64,000 acres of forest!
It's written in a lyrical, evocative verse, and begins by inviting
the reader into a tropical dream of a rainforest home:
"Once there was a forest home
Tangled under a treetop dome
Deep and green as you've ever seen
Noisy and wild as you can dream..."
Later
on, the story tells how the kids came together in a remarkable
dream to save the forest,
and then tells of the forest today, which is still wild and
safe. At the end, there is an invitation to the reader to know that
"The Children's Eternal Rainforest is your home too". There are
historical details, and soon there will also be information about
the critters and plants in the story, as well as general facts about
rainforests.
Central to the site is the
KIDS' BOOK PROJECT which involves kids
illustrating copies of the story in their schools, camps, libraries
etc. and selling their own editions to
help the forest and their schools/communities.
